I love the Mike Rowe show, "Dirty Jobs". It brings honor to the tough and messy work many of us have to do. On this Labor Day, I was reminded of a story when one of my daughters worked in the factory. I was walking through the lunch room. She was sitting with some of the other workers. One of them called to me, "Hey, we're convincing your daughter to stay in college so she doesn't end up like us, here."
That stopped me in my tracks. I walked over and told them, "I'd be honored if she chose to work here, especially if this was something she wanted to do. What you guys do is honorable work. You should be proud of it too." They seemed to look back at me with awe. I gave them all a smile and walked away.
On this Labor Day, give thanks for the hard-working men and women who make our lives what they are: the services we take for granted, the messes we never have to clean, the products we can't live without.
